UNICEF Interactive Experience
In this adaptable and immersive installation, a corridor is dressed from floor to ceiling with facts and interactive video stations to educate the public about Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and its devastating impact on children around the world.
In the field, UNICEF workers use a red, yellow and green measuring tape to help determine the degree of malnutrition in each child – with red being the most severe, yellow being cause for concern and green being healthy. We used an oversized version of this tape measure to guide visitors through the installation.
The RED section of the display features factoids and interactive content about the impact of SAM on children. Audible sensory explorations and interactive objects and stations further heighten the public’s understanding of this debilitating illness.
The YELLOW section of the display provides information and interactive content about the vital work UNICEF does in nutritional intervention and counseling, along with UNICEF products used to help malnourished children on the road to recovery.
The GREEN section is an opportunity for people to donate funds to help provide life-saving food to severely malnourished children. A wall is filled with photos of children in need. Each photo comes with a unique code. People can text to that unique code in order to symbolically donate much-needed food to that child. Once a donation is made, the child’s photo is replaced with the donor’s name on a Thank You note on the wall.
